Divorce is one of the most financially disruptive life events your clients may face, and it’s often one of the most overlooked areas in traditional financial planning. This engaging and informative session provides wealth managers with an inside look at the specialized tools, insights, and strategies a Certified Divorce Financial Analyst® (CDFA®) brings to the table. You’ll walk away with a clearer understanding of how to better support your clients through this high-stakes transition, while protecting their long-term financial wellbeing and strengthening your advisory relationship.
You’ll learn:
• What exactly a CDFA does and how our work complements, rather than competes with, traditional wealth management. Understand the difference between long-term financial planning and divorce-specific forecasting related to property division, cash flow, and support scenarios.
• Red flags and costly missteps commonly made in divorce settlements, including failure to consider tax impact, improperly structured support agreements, overlooked executive compensation packages, and mishandling of retirement assets or RSUs.
• How utilizing a CDFA can save clients’ money, reduce litigation time, and preserve the marital estate. A more efficient, strategic divorce process helps
maintain the client's asset base, benefiting both the client and the advisor.
• When and why to bring in a CDFA or Certified Divorce Coach to support your client. Through case examples, you’ll see how timely referrals can improve negotiation outcomes, reduce emotional decision-making, and increase long-term financial stability.
By the end of this session, you’ll be equipped with a sharper lens to identify when divorce-related financial planning is needed, and the tools to proactively guide your clients toward better outcomes with the right experts by their side.
