Many clients approaching retirement face a critical challenge: securing affordable, reliable health insurance after leaving employer-sponsored coverage but before becoming eligible for Medicare. This session provides a practical, advisor-focused overview of the primary options available to individuals ages 55–64 who are navigating this often‑confusing transition.
Participants will explore both Marketplace (ACA) plans and underwritten health insurance alternatives, gaining clarity on how each option works, who they best serve, and the financial and medical considerations that influence suitability. The session will also highlight planning strategies that help clients manage costs, avoid coverage gaps, and make informed decisions during a period of heightened vulnerability.
Steve Vollenweider, Owner & Senior Broker, Best Plan Insurance Steve was a banker out of college with the forerunner of Truist Bank. From there, he was an independent territory representative and sales manager for 27 years with Jostens. Leaving the corporate environment seven years ago allowed Steve to look at other health insurance options. His family has been on group plans, Obamacare, ministry-share programs, catastrophic plans, COBRA, etc. Steve finally found good health insurance for his family and ended up opening his agency because of that experience. Best Plan Insurance has doubled its portfolio each year in business. Best Plan Insurance is located in downtown Cumming, GA and licensed with 25+ of the best carriers in Georgia.
Steve is married to his wife Tina and live on the north end of Lake Lanier. They share five adult children and have six grandchildren.
