Based around the characters of the popular TV show Modern Family, this presentation focuses on the myriad of estate and legacy planning issues faced by this fictional family. These issues include: a second marriage where the new spouse is the same age as the children from the prior marriage, a non-citizen spouse and a same sex couple with an adopted child. Estate tax Issues around the unlimited marital deduction and lifetime gifting between unmarried couples will be covered. Planning issues and strategies for same-sex couples following the Supreme Court's decision around DOMA, U.S. v Windsor, Hollingsworth v Perry and Obergefell vs Hodges, will also be covered. The presentation discusses a wide range of insurance based planning strategies.
